Hints & Tips

Regardless of whether you choose to feed your baby breastmilk or formula, we’re here to provide the information you need to know.

Bottle Feeding | Breastmilk or Formula

There are many reasons why a mum might need to make the switch from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. And there's no doubt that if that time comes breastmilk is the most nutritional option for your baby. But for parents who do switch to formula, we’re here to provide the information you need to know.

Regardless of whether you choose to feed your baby breastmilk or formula, sometimes parents have to use a bottle.

Bottle Feeding Breastmilk

Breastmilk is natural food for your baby, filled with all the specific nutrients that they need – like their own favourite unique recipe. Feeding breastmilk through a bottle gives you and your little one the best of both worlds. If you need to switch to bottle feeding, they’ll still be able to enjoy all the nutritional advantages of breastmilk.

Breastmilk helps ensure your baby gets the exact amount of nutrients they need. It’s also more easily digested, reducing the likelihood of your baby getting constipated or gassy.

While these are all fantastic benefits, it’s the long-term advantages of breastmilk that steal the show. Breastmilk is so nutritionally powerful that it can help protect your little one from illnesses such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, asthma and diabetes down the line.

The longer you breastfeed, the greater the protection your baby has against all of the above! For this reason, the WHO recommends that breastmilk is the best option for your baby during the first six months of their life.

And it’s not just your baby who’ll reap the rewards of breastmilk, because making it even has health benefits for you! The more you produce milk, the lower your risk of developing serious diseases such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, osteoporosis and obesity.

That’s a BIG win/win for you and your baby!

Bottle Feeding Formula

If for any reason you can’t express breastmilk, baby formulas are developed to be made with nutrients a growing baby needs.

It isn’t an easy choice for most parents to use formula milk, but rest assured that if you make that step, your baby will still grow and thrive.

You should always consult your doctor or midwife to talk about your feeding journey.

There’s lots of support and help out there to give you what you need to continue breastfeeding, but if you do switch to formula, discuss what your best options are with your health care provider.

You should never feel guilty about how your feeding journey goes, you’re doing the best you can for you and your baby, whichever decision you make.
