Parts guide

This is a guide to all the component parts of your Perfect Prep Day & Night machine, and how they fit together. Before you get started, please make sure that you have everything you need.

How to set up your Perfect Prep Day & Night

  • Before you use your Perfect Prep machine for the first time, you need to run a cleaning cycle and fit your filter.
  • To do this, press the select button and then follow the directions on your screen.
  • Once you’ve fitted your filter, the unit will warn you that the tank is empty and that you need to add water.
  • Use cold tap water.
  • It can take up to 10 minutes for the water to filter through into the base of the unit.
  • Once enough water has filtered through, the tank empty warning light will go off and your system is ready to use.

TIP:  Press the select button at any time during cleaning to pause water pumping through.

Priming Your Filter

  • Only ever handle the filter by holding it by the blue cap.
  • Remove the filter from packaging.
  • Remove the sticker from the top of the filter.
  • Fill a bowl with cold tap water.
  • Submerge the filter in water and gently agitate until the bubbles stop.
  • Your filter is now ready to fit into the water hopper.

Where is the best place to keep my Perfect Prep Day & Night?

The Perfect Prep should be kept in a cool dry location, out of direct sunlight and away from warm appliances. This is recommended to avoid the tank temperature getting too warm.

The Perfect Prep unit contains a probe that measures the temperature of the water in the tank which prevents the unit from dispensing if the water is above 27°C. This is a key safety feature to ensure that the final feed is not too hot for your baby.

High water temperature should only ever be an issue in hotter climates, but it is not uncommon for mains water to rise in temperature in cooler climates during a sustained period of hot weather.

We therefore recommend that the cold tap is flushed for 10 seconds before filling the tank.

To prevent your unit getting too hot…

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight.
  • Regularly top it up with cold tap water rather than letting a full unit stand and warm for long periods of time.
  • Keep a cold jug of water in the fridge.
  • Add some ice cubes to the hopper.

My temperature warning light keeps coming on and I don’t know why. What can I do to turn this off?

The only time we would expect this warning light to come on is during the cleaning mode, when you flush the unit with boiled water. Thereafter, you should only ever fill your unit with cold water from the tap.

What does the hot shot do?

The hot shot is a key feature of the Perfect Prep. It not only helps to dissolve the formula powder quickly and easily, but it also kills bacteria which may be present in the formula itself. The water dispensed in the hot shot is at a temperature of over 70°C.

How long can I leave unused water in the tank?

Water is a food stuff, so we recommend using any water in the tank within 1-2 days. If water has been left in the hopper for longer, then please empty and refill before next use.

Do I need to boil the water before I pour it into the water hopper?

No, we recommend you use normal tap water in the hopper.  If you do use boiling water, the machine will recognise that the water is too hot, and it won’t let you dispense a feed as the milk would be too hot and pose a risk to your baby.

How to make a feed with your Perfect Prep Day & Night

  1. Turn machine on by pressing the select button.
  2. Select the feed size you require using the forward and back buttons.
  3. Then simply follow the directions on the screen.

How to replace the filter in your Perfect Prep Day & Night

  • Enter the settings menu and scroll across to ‘Fit new filter’.
  • Press the select button and then follow the directions on your screen.

Replacement filters are available from the Tommee Tippee website, please follow this link to shop.

Why do I have to use a Tommee Tippee filter?

We are aware that some people are buying standard water jug filters, rather than Tommee Tippee filters, for use in their Perfect Prep machines. Most standard water filters do not include an anti-bacterial filtration membrane so will NOT remove bacteria. It is therefore extremely important to ensure that you are buying and using the correct Tommee Tippee anti-bacterial filter.

Why do I need to submerge the filter before use?

Submerging the filter before use ensures that any air bubbles or loose particles within the filter are removed prior to use. If bubbles remain, it could affect the operation of the machine. Submerging should only take a minute or so.

Once you place the filter into the machine, use the first bottle cycle without adding formula as a final flush to complete this process. Once complete, you’re ready to go!

Remember, if you’ve got any questions or concerns about this process, feel free to contact us to chat more.

How often do I need to change the filter?

On average each filter should last around 3 months, depending on the amount and size of bottles you use. The warning light will tell you when the filter needs to be changed.

The first light (when solid) is purely an indicator. When the light flashes, the filter physically requires changing.

Sometimes when I change the water filter there are black particles on the cartridge. What are they?

You may find that there’s a small residue of black carbon in the bag or on the surface of the cartridge, this can happen and it’s nothing to be concerned about. These dust particles are harmless and will be reduced during the initial set up process when submerging in clean fresh water. The carbon used in the filter is food grade certified and therefore poses no harm to your little one.

Emptying your unit

  • If you want to drain your machine of water enter the settings menu and scroll across to ‘Empty Unit’.
  • Press the select button and follow the directions on your screen.

As with any other method of making up a feed for a baby, it’s essential that good hygiene practices are observed when using and maintaining your Perfect Prep Day & Night machine.

It’s very important that your everyday routine includes simple hygiene steps like keeping formula away from the hopper and only ever holding the top of the filter. Ensure that your hands and all surfaces that come in to contact with the machine and its components are clean, and that the unit is away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

How often do I need to clean my Perfect Prep Day & Night machine?

You should clean your machine:

  • Before its first use and then on a 4-weekly basis.
  • If your machine hasn’t been used for 1 week.
  • When replacing your filter.

Cleaning the Perfect Prep Day & Night is simple, the machine does all the thinking for you! Simply…

  • Enter settings menu, then scroll across to ‘Clean Unit’.
  • Press the select button and then follow the directions on your screen.
  • Always carry out the cleaning process when the tank light is illuminated so there’s no need to discard of any water.
  • We also advise you to regularly clean the external surfaces with a clean cloth (preferably with an antibacterial solution), including the dispenser spout.

Descaling

The screen will notify you when you need to descale your machine. The descaling process will remove deposits of calcium and other minerals in the system that may affect its performance.

  • Enter settings menu and scroll across to ‘Descale Unit’.
  • Press the select button and then follow the directions on your screen.
  • The descaling process can take up to 30 minutes, fortunately you won’t need to do this very often!
  • We recommend using food grade white/clear vinegar to descale your machine when required.

We’re really sorry that you’re having trouble with your Perfect Prep Day & Night machine, hopefully the information below will solve any issues for you.

Why is the amount of feed over or under the level of feed I was expecting?

As is normal with all manufactured products, the Perfect Prep Machine dispensed water volume has an allowed tolerance of +/- 5%. Additionally, there are potential tolerances in the measurement graduations of our Closer to Nature bottles.

This means that any volume below 100 ml may vary by +/- 5 ml, and any volume above 100 ml may vary by +/- 5%.

It’s therefore possible for the combination of both tolerances, machine, and bottle, to make the volume dispensed by the machine appear inaccurate.

Our Closer to Nature baby bottles all meet or surpass the requirements for volume tolerances as specified by European Standard EN 14350.

Although we do not manufacture formula powder, we have looked at what the leading brands recommend and most assume that a 9lb+ baby will be on 4oz feeds. It is difficult to recommend a "suitable from" age because every newborn’s weight is different. Some babies are onto 4oz feeds within a couple of weeks whereas others may take longer.

Why can’t I make a feed smaller than a 4oz bottle?

We would love for you to be able to prepare a smaller bottle volume with the Prefect Prep unit, but it cannot make up a bottle below 4oz because the volume of the feed needs to be large enough to easily split into two:

  1. An initial hot shot big enough to dilute the formula into
  2. A dilution big enough to dilute the hot down to body temperature ready to serve

For any smaller feeds, we don’t have enough hot water in which to dilute the formula powder effectively, or enough to dilute and cool it down sufficiently from 70°C.

My unit keeps getting too hot and stops working.

The Perfect Prep unit contains a probe that measures the temperature of the water in the tank which prevents the unit from dispensing if the water is above 27°C. This is a key safety feature to ensure that the final feed is not too hot for your baby.

I’m struggling to change the settings on my Perfect Prep Day & Night Machine.

Please watch the video below to learn how to adjust the settings on your unit.

My unit has no power.

Our first recommendation to resolve this issue is to try multiple plug sockets in your home to establish if the plug socket itself is not working as expected.

Following this check, if you are still not getting any power to the unit and have a receipt, the quickest option would be to return the unit to the retailer who you purchased it from, and they should be able to offer a quick exchange.

If you don’t have a receipt, then we would suggest getting in touch with our Parent Hub team. To ensure a speedy resolution with the team, please have the following information to hand.

  • Batch code of the unit (this is engraved on the base consists of 5 numbers and then the letters XO).
  • The date and retailer purchased from.
  • Proof of purchase.

Our team will work with you to troubleshoot any potential issues and find a solution to get you back up and running. Feel free to contact us.
